E-mpower Youth

Building and strengthening digital resilience and countering gender-based violence online

The project aims to improve the digital wellbeing of Ukrainian refugee and internally displaced youth (IDP) aged 12-18 living in Ukraine, Poland and the Netherlands. The project focuses on enabling them to function safely in the digital world, counteracting gender-based violence online and strengthening their emotional and mental health. Activities include the active involvement of young people, their carers and local communities in building resilience to online risks, with a particular focus on young people at risk of exclusion, including girls, LGBTIQ youth and Roma youth.

The E-mpowerYouth project aims to increase the digital safety of

of young people affected by forced displacement by developing and implementing gender-sensitive tools to effectively prevent, recognise and respond to online violence. The project emphasises the development of online risk awareness, media education and empowerment of young people and their carers to recognise and manage the risks of digital violence. Through audience-tailored educational materials, workshops and interactive tools, the project creates an enabling environment in which young people from vulnerable groups can use digital spaces with greater confidence, minimising the risk of experiencing gender-based violence.

Developing the E-mpowerYouth toolkit

The project aims to develop a comprehensive toolkit that covers key topics related to violence against women and men in the digital space. Activities include analysis of relevant issues, identification of available resources in Poland, Ukraine and the Netherlands, preparation of toolkit content and design of a user-friendly digital user interface to be integrated into the project website.

Strengthening the competences of organisations

As part of the capacity-building component, an E-mpowerYouth Toolbox manual and Training of Trainers (ToT) materials will be prepared. Their aim is to prepare organisations to use the developed materials effectively. In addition, training will be provided for project partners in each country to enable the implementation of the tools in practice.

Mainstreaming the toolkit

The next stage will be to pilot the toolkit both in an online format and in

face-to-face meetings. Based on the results of the testing, the content will be adapted and refined and the tools will then be integrated into the main activities of the organisation and made available to a wider audience.

Dissemination of results

The project envisages the development of an information strategy and materials for a media campaign targeting young people, their carers and organisations supporting Ukrainian youth. It is also planned to carry out national and international events to promote the results of the project. In addition, online training courses will be conducted for external stakeholders interested in implementing the E-mpowerYouth toolkit. As part of the dissemination activities, the results of the analysis on the gaps in online sexual violence prevention systems in the three project countries will also be presented.

The project is being implemented during the period: 01.04.2025 – 31.03.2027.
